Red Garland (1923–1984) — Piano. Led Groovy, All Mornin' Long, Soul Junction. Worked with Paul Chambers, John Coltrane, Philly Joe Jones.

His left hand sparkles with block chords. Bright, joyful, comfortable to listen to. What he does technically is difficult — but it never sounds that way, which is its own kind of genius. His swinging in the Miles Davis quintet is simply the most comfortable feeling in jazz.
