Mark Turner (b. 1965) — Tenor Saxophone, Saxophone. Played on Mark Turner, The Next Step, Dharma Days. Worked with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jeff Ballard, Ambrose Akinmusire.

Cool and transparent — his tenor tone has a glassy clarity unlike anyone else. Influenced by Warne Marsh, his sense of time and phrasing are singular. He represents the intellectual side of modern jazz, and the respect he commands from collaborators is remarkable.

Turner and Kurt RosenwinkelKurt RosenwinkelKurt Rosenwinkelカート・ローゼンウィンケル met at Berklee and became central figures in the NYC post-bop scene of the late 1990s. Rosenwinkel's complex harmony and Turner's dry, oblique lines fed each other. They appeared on each other's albums repeatedly, co-authoring the contemporary jazz guitar and saxophone vocabulary.
