Marcus Gilmore

Marcus Gilmore (b. 1986) — Drums. Played on Karibu, Historicity, Live in Paris. Worked with Vijay Iyer, Stephan Crump, Esperanza Spalding.

His grandfather Roy Haynes is a legend of jazz drumming. Gilmore is best known for his work in Vijay Iyer's trio, where he assembles complex rhythms with intellectual precision. He is also open to integrating electronics, carrying the drum forward into new territories.

Marcus Gilmore, grandson of Roy Haynes, has been the drummer in pianist Vijay Iyer's trio for about a decade. The two met through their mutual mentor Steve Coleman and recorded the 2015 album Break Stuff together.
