Baltimore-born drummer who joined Parliament-Funkadelic at 18 and toured for four years. Went on to work with John Scofield, John McLaughlin, Carlos Santana, Niacin, and Mike Stern. Played on SMAP's singles "$10" and "Tabun Orai" alongside Omar Hakim and Vinnie Colaiuta in New York sessions. Inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 2001.

The album SMAP 007 ~Gold Singer~ (1995) was recorded in New York with Chambers, Vinnie Colaiuta, Omar Hakim, and Bernard Purdie on drums, plus Will Lee, Michael Brecker, Randy BreckerRandy BreckerRandy Breckerランディ・ブレッカー, and David T. Walker. Omar Hakim was so impressed he named the session collective "Smappies," which released its own instrumental albums. Behind Japan's biggest boy band was a who's-who of jazz fusion.
